How many COLLEGES did you APPLY to?

1. How many colleges did you apply to?

2. How many did you get into?

3. How many do you suggest applying to?

*Optional: List the colleges you applied to and got into.

THANKS!How many COLLEGES did you APPLY to?
My original list was 10 but I ended up applying to 5. I got into to all of them. If your grades are not the best I would say apply to more. But if your grades are good, go for a smaller number like 5.

U of Cincinnati

Baldwin Wallace U

Carneige Mellon U

Point Park U

For undergrad:

8, got in to 7 (missing 1 was probably because they never received my transcript).

For graduate school:

6, got in to 3 (much has to do with one of my references being late).

Personally, I really didn't need to apply to so many. For undergrad, I probably should have only done 4 or 5. Grad school, probably 4 would have been right.

How many should you apply to?

I can't give you a straightforward number but here are factors to consider:

-It is generally better to focus on perfecting a few applications rather than many. More specifically, do not apply to more schools if it will compromise the time you *need* to spend on other applications.

-You should apply to at least one ';dream'; school no matter what; and also apply to at least one ';back-up'; where you'll be satisfied going to

-However, do not apply to a ton of schools that you know you have no chance of (if it clearly states that you need xxx qualifications as a MINIMUM, don't bother. If you meet the cut offs you DO have a chance). You're wasting time and money.

-***Do not apply where you do not want to go***. If you do visits and research the schools before hand, this will help you narrow the field greatly. %26lt;-***I think this is the most important step***

-Scholarships can be a finnicky thing, and complicate this equation especially for graduate school. Applying at the right time (right when new scholarships are created) can be more a matter of luck than good grades, research or skill. So in this case, applying to more places can help. However, I assume you're applying for undergrad, so you can ignore this message.

In the end all the decisions are yours, and take all advice carefully.
I applied to 3: Ohio State University, Purdue University, and University of Illinois. I got accepted to Ohio State and Purdue, and at Illinois, I first got deferred, and then got wait-listed.
