How does gellyfish fluorescent uv light apply to biology?

'jellyfish' was used to isolate a protein called 'green fluorescent protein' (GFP). this has had significant importance in molecular and cell biology. when you clone the GFP gene next to your protein of interest, the protein, when translated, fluoresces green when shined with blue light. this allows protein localization, determine interacting partners (ie:with FRET), etc. this is the biggest application of GFP in biology.How does gellyfish fluorescent uv light apply to biology?
